The Presidential Primaries Election Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally announced the commencement of activities leading to the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate for the January 2027 Presidential Election.
In a statement released by the committee, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and democratic principles, positioning itself as a leading example of internal democracy in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to the committee, the ADC remains determined to provide a credible and open platform where every qualified aspirant has an equal opportunity to present their vision and earn the support of party members across the country. The committee noted that, unlike the culture of imposition, consensus manipulation, and predetermined outcomes that have become common in many political parties, the ADC is committed to a democratic process rooted in fairness, participation, and accountability.
Three Eminent Aspirants
The statement highlighted the caliber of aspirants contesting for the party’s presidential ticket, describing them as accomplished leaders capable of steering the nation through challenging times.
The aspirants include former Vice President of Nigeria, H.E. Atiku Abubakar, GCON; former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi; and renowned development economist and businessman, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-deen, former Chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG).
The committee stressed that each aspirant represents a genuine presidential contender, underscoring the ADC’s commitment to open contestation of ideas and democratic rebirth.
Nationwide Primary Process Begins
The ADC disclosed that the presidential primary election process has officially commenced nationwide, with party members already participating in the exercise across the countrThe committee urged members and stakeholders to ensure that only genuine figures are counted, emphasizing the party’s commitment to transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
“We know how to count properly and arithmetically,” the statement read, adding that the ADC would not inflate registration figures or manipulate vote totals to deceive Nigerians.
Commitment to Credible Democracy
The Electoral Committee assured aspirants, party faithful, and Nigerians of a free, fair, transparent, and credible exercise that will strengthen internal democracy within the party and contribute to deepening democratic culture across Nigeria.
Reaffirming the party’s vision, the ADC stated that it remains committed to building a nation anchored on justice, equity, competence, accountability, inclusivity, and the genuine will of the people.
The committee further emphasized that democracy must begin within political parties before it can truly flourish in governance. As the historic process unfolds, the ADC called on all party members and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the primary election period.
