The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched the “One Woman, 10 Votes” Initiative, a grassroots mobilisation programme designed to strengthen women’s participation in the political process and deepen voter engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative was unveiled today at the Shehu Musa Yar'adua Centre in Abuja by the National Women Leader of the ADC, Mrs. Naomi Lasara-Abel, as the party intensifies its grassroots organisation and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The programme is built around a simple mobilisation principle: every participating woman is encouraged to engage and mobilise 10 voters within her community, creating a structured network of women-led grassroots participation across wards and polling units.

The initiative places women at the centre of ADC’s grassroots mobilisation strategy, recognising their important role in families, communities and local networks across the country.

Strengthening Women’s Political Participation

Speaking on the initiative, the ADC National Women Leader called on Nigerian women to become active participants in the democratic process and to take responsibility for mobilising voters within their communities.

She also urged women to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process and to protect their votes against intimidation, harassment and other attempts to undermine citizens’ participation at polling units.

The One Woman, 10 Votes Initiative therefore combines voter mobilisation with greater awareness of the importance of safeguarding the ballot, with women expected to play an active role from the community level through to election day.

Taking Grassroots Organisation to the Wards

The initiative is part of the ADC’s broader grassroots mobilisation drive as the party builds its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

ADC has continued to emphasise the importance of community-level organisation, voter education and participation. The party’s recent mobilisation activities have also focused on strengthening support structures and ensuring that party organisation extends beyond national and state capitals to wards and polling units.

At a recent ADC support-group engagement in Abuja, the party announced plans to strengthen its polling-unit presence and expand its vote-protection structure as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

The development reflects ADC’s wider strategy of building an organised grassroots network capable of engaging voters, promoting participation and ensuring that citizens are adequately represented throughout the electoral process.

Building a Nationwide Women-Led Network

Through the One Woman, 10 Votes Initiative, ADC is seeking to build a nationwide network of women who are actively engaged in voter mobilisation, community outreach and electoral awareness.

The initiative provides a framework through which women can organise within their communities, engage other voters and encourage greater participation in the electoral process.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections continue, the African Democratic Congress says its focus remains on building strong grassroots structures and ensuring that citizens are organised, informed and actively involved in the democratic process.

The One Woman, 10 Votes Initiative is expected to form an important part of the ADC women’s mobilisation programme as the party continues its nationwide engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
