The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to participating fully in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, dismissing recent claims suggesting otherwise as false and misleading.
In a statement released by the party, the ADC made it clear that it remains steadfast in its mission to provide a credible alternative to the current administration and to halt what it described as a troubling drift toward a one-party state. The party emphasized that any insinuation that it would not field candidates in the upcoming elections is “entirely unfounded, mischievous, and designed to create confusion.”
According to the ADC, there is no legal, structural, or strategic basis for such claims. The party reiterated that it is fully compliant with the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, and therefore faces no impediment to contesting in 2027.
More importantly, the ADC stressed that it is not merely preparing to participate, but to compete effectively. It pledged to present candidates who are “credible, competent, and nationally acceptable,” individuals capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges and steering the country toward stability and progress.
Positioning itself as a leading opposition platform, the party underscored its focus on grassroots mobilization and national organization. It noted that its efforts are geared toward engaging Nigerians who are increasingly concerned about insecurity, the rising cost of living, and limited economic opportunities.
“The ADC stands today as a serious political force,” the statement noted, adding that the party is committed to building the structures necessary not just to contest elections, but to win them.
The party also called on its members, supporters, and the general public to disregard what it described as baseless speculation, while urging Nigerians to remain focused on the broader goal of national renewal, stressing that the stakes are too high to be distracted by unfounded narratives.
As political activities gradually build toward the 2027 elections, the ADC’s message signals its intention to play a central role in shaping the country’s democratic future.
