The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially released its timetable for the conduct of the party’s 2026 primary elections, setting the stage for a structured, transparent, and inclusive process ahead of the next electoral cycle.
In a statement issued by the party, the ADC noted that the timetable underscores its firm commitment to internal democracy, orderliness, and strict adherence to established electoral guidelines. The outlined schedule provides a clear framework for aspirants and stakeholders, ensuring a seamless and credible primary election process.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will commence on May 5 and run through May 10, 2026. Aspirants are expected to submit their completed forms between May 11 and May 13, 2026.
The party will conduct screening exercises for all aspirants from May 14 to May 15, 2026, with the results of the screening to be published on May 17, 2026. Candidates who wish to contest the outcome of the screening will have the opportunity to do so during the appeals window scheduled for May 18 and May 19, 2026. The final list of cleared aspirants will subsequently be released on May 20, 2026.
Primary elections will begin on May 21, 2026, with contests for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats taking place simultaneously at the ward level nationwide. Governorship primaries are slated for May 22, 2026, while the Presidential Primary will be held on May 25, 2026.
The process will culminate in a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee on May 26, 2026, followed by a Special National Convention on May 27, 2026, where final ratifications of candidates are expected to be made.
As part of its broader commitment to inclusivity and wider political participation, the ADC also announced a structured fee regime for nomination forms across all elective offices. The presidential nomination form is set at ₦100 million, governorship at ₦50 million, Senate at ₦20 million, House of Representatives at ₦10 million, and State House of Assembly at ₦3 million.
To encourage greater participation among underrepresented groups, the party has introduced concessional rates, offering a 50 percent discount for youths, as well as a 25 percent discount for women and persons with disabilities.
The ADC called on all party members, stakeholders, and prospective aspirants to strictly adhere to the approved timetable and guidelines, emphasizing that discipline and compliance are essential to the success of the process.
With this announcement, the party signals its readiness to conduct primaries that reflect its core values of fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity.
