The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has concluded its 101st meeting with a number of significant resolutions aimed at strengthening the party's structures and advancing its democratic processes ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
At the meeting, NEC reviewed and approved the results of recently conducted party primaries for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, Governorship, and Presidential elections across the country. The approval covers all concluded primaries except those with pending appeals as of May 29, 2026, as well as primaries that are yet to be concluded. NEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and due process in the party's internal electoral processes.
In a further decision, NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) for a period of twelve (12) months from the expiration of its current tenure. The extension is intended to provide continuity in leadership and ensure the effective implementation of the party's strategic objectives during this critical period.
The Committee also approved the constitution of Caretaker Committees at the Zonal, State, Local Government, and Ward levels. These committees will serve for a period of twelve (12) months and are expected to strengthen party administration, enhance grassroots mobilisation, and support the ongoing reorganisation efforts across the federation.
Additionally, NEC expressed concern over the continued detention of Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, describing him as a prisoner of conscience. The Committee called for his immediate release and reiterated its commitment to the protection of fundamental rights, democratic freedoms, and the rule of law.
The African Democratic Congress remains steadfast in its mission to deepen democracy, promote good governance, and provide credible leadership for the Nigerian people.
